The district's goal is to ensure that every student learns the skills and information they need to be well educated and productive citizens. Test results are an important measure to monitor our efforts in reaching that goal.

AUSD utilizes a variety of assessments to gather data on student achievement levels in order to monitor student progress over time and to make instructional decisions in the best interest of each student. The assessments currently in use with AUSD include:

Smarter Balanced Assessments for English Language Arts and Math

  • Administered annually to students in grades 3-8 and grade 11.  Individual score reports are sent home to families and school and district scores are used in generating California School Dashboard ratings.
  • School and district scores, including disaggregated results, are available at the states CAASPP Results page.

California Science Test (CAST)

  • A limited pilot was administered in 2016-17 at some schools and grade levels.  No students score reports will be sent to schools, districts, or families.
  • In Spring 2018 there will be a full field test with the plan for a fully operational administration in January-July 2019.

California Alternate Assessments (CAAs)

  • Administered to students with the most significant cognitive disabilities and whose individualized education plan (IEP) team has designated the use of an alternate assessment on statewide summative assessments.

California English Language Development Test (CELDT)

  • Students in kindergarten through grade twelve whose home language is not English are required by law to take an English skills test. In California, the test is called the CELDT. This test helps schools identify students who need to improve their skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Schools also give the test each year to students who are still classified as English Learners.

English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC)

  • The ELPAC is replacing the CELDT and will serve the same purpose - to assess the English skills of English Learners.

District benchmark tests in Language Arts and Mathematics

High School Advanced Placement Exams (AP Exams)

Student achievement results are housed in a central data system, Educator's Assessment Data Management System (EADMS), which allows each AUSD teacher web access to their students' data. The EADMS system also allows administrators to monitor school wide and district wide performance over time.
