Getting Ready to Return to School

complete data confirmation

Our annual Data Confirmation opened on August 9.

As a reminder: Data Confirmation is used to affirm a student's attendance in Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) for the upcoming school year. It's also an opportunity for parents/guardians to update emergency contacts, acknowledge annual authorizations, and review District policies. We ask that all families complete the process to make sure we have up-to-date information for your student.

Please log into your Aeries Family Portal account and complete the process as soon as possible. You can find additional information about the process in our  Annual Data Confirmation FAQ’s.

Please complete this process by the start of the school year. It generally takes less than 10 minutes to go through the process.

Get your 12-17 year old vaccinated

The current COVID-19 vaccinations are safe and effective. Research shows that vaccinating students can help reduce the risk of students:

  • Getting infected with COVID-19

  • Developing severe disease if they do get COVID-19

  • Infecting other students, their families, AUSD staff, and the community at large.

As such, we strongly urge families with 12-17 year old children to get their students vaccinated against COVID-19.

Families can find up-to-date vaccination information on the Alameda County Office of Education website.

sign up for covid-19 testing

Currently testing for public school students is voluntary. However, we are encouraging our families to have their students tested regularly throughout the school year because:

  • It will help us identify and respond to any students or staff who have COVID-19 so that they do not transmit to other students.

  • In the event of a COVID-19 case in a classroom during the school year, it will help us to have your student’s information in the system and be able to test them. (See “When a Student Gets Sick” for more information on this scenario.)

The test consists of a non-invasive nasal swab that enters less than one inch into the nostril. The laboratory will use a RT-PCR test to analyze each specimen. You should receive results within 24-48 hours.  In addition to providing background screening testing to elementary students once a month, we will also provide testing to all AUSD staff and students at our secondary sites one week out of the month. The full schedule is available on our Student and Staff COVID-19 Testing page.

We urge all unvaccinated students & staff to test biweekly, if possible. We are also exploring the option of setting up monthly test sites at our elementary and middle schools to help families access testing more easily. The Data Confirmation packet includes consent and intake forms for regular voluntary testing at the sites, as well as testing in response to positive cases in the classroom.

apply for free & reduced meals

This year, the USDA and State of California are making it possible for meals to be available for ALL students at no charge. Nevertheless, we continue to ask families to complete the application for Free and Reduced Meals. Students who receive free and reduced price meals benefit from getting the food and nutrition they need to learn. But  being a part of this program also provides other benefits for students, including free or reduced prices on:

  • Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT)

  • Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

  • American College Testing (ACT) fee waiver of basic registration fee

  • College applications

  • SAT Prep Classes

  • Advance Placement (AP) Exams

You can find the application at: www.myschoolapps.com, as well as on our Food and Nutrition Services web page.
